Broadway Fatcat was the sixth song recorded and first in play order.
As it was the last song recorded, we were scrambling for time. We recorded the guitar, bass, and drums all at once onto a single track in only two takes. After that, we had about 20 minutes left to write lyrics and record the vocals. We wrote the first verse and recorded it with about 10 minutes left, then recorded the choruses. With about 90 seconds to spare, Nick finished the second verse and we recorded it together on the same mic in two takes to come in about 25 seconds over our 24 hour limit.
It gets the album started with a funk-rock, early-90's Red Hot Chili Peppers style that will get your toes tapping early. Written by Nicholas Brozack, Anton Chirovsky, and Adam Levine and performed by the same, the song deals with the idea of a 20-something character in a big city who spends a large percentage of their income on lavish luxury items and has nothing left over but debt owed to creditors who were borrowed from to pay for lavish luxury items.
