Endless Train was the fifth song recorded and last in play order.
Incredibly, everything on this song was recorded in a single take. The acoustic guitar pattern was pre-determined, as were the lyrics, but the electric guitar, violin, and vocal melody were all improvised during recording.
This atmospheric song with operatic vocals and droning instrumentation was written to bring to life the mind of a weary traveler who longs for home but cannot return. The poetic lyrics are delivered with haunting power that is accented by the electric guitar wails (Anton himself said he wanted them to sound "like whale songs") and the occasional agonized tones from a violin.
This song closes out the album with a quiet ambient sound and the feeling that all that is left of the night we spent together making music is memory, but that it will be a good memory.
