Mister Nice Guy Rag was the third song recorded and in the play order.
In a complete change of direction from the previous track, this song is a 1920's style rag written from the point of view of a lonely girl out on the town.
Mister Nice Guy is unique in that it was recorded all in one take to one single track. We did this for two reasons - we were short on time after the recording of Battering Ram put us over budget by about 2.5 hours, and McKelvy wanted to record a video of the song, so we wanted everything to sync up properly.
We used a single mic for the piano, a shared mic for the clarinet and acoustic guitar, a mic for vocals, and a mic on a tall stand extended to the top of the room to capture the blended sound as well as the drums and percussion.
I'll post a link to the video once we have it up and synced to the sound!
